Title:  Baby: Final chapter Part 1: New Arrival

Summary: With Mia gone into labour and the guys occupied with the foot. Will Leo make it back in time for the birth of his baby?
Note: I will be using these (---) to divide my story as some scenes jump back and forth to one another.

One ninja struck down.
Two.
Three.

The turtles were making a mockery of the foot soldiers that had ambushed them. Granted they had learnt a few new tricks, but it was nothing the guys couldn’t handle.

Suddenly the ringing of a shell cell interrupted things all together. Don dived into his bag pulling out the device, and placed it against his ear.
“Hello… oh hey babe what’s… oh hang on a sec!” the genius quickly leapt high dodging a joint attack between two of the soldiers, with a twist of his staff he took them both out as he came falling down.

Now with a few more seconds to spare he got back to his phone call.
“Sorry about that, you were saying… uh-huh… yeah alright, HEY LEO!” Don yelled from across the rooftop, as he spotted his brother amongst the chaos. Hearing his name Leo turned to see don waving his cell in the air.
“It’s for you!” Don cried out before throwing the phone in his direction.

Leo stormed towards a wall as he sprung himself off it, giving him a much higher leverage in his jump. He just about grabbed it before it flew over his head and off the roof completely.

"Hey, Leo… are you there?!" Julie’s voice called down the phone.

“Yeah Julie it’s… HAH! ... It’s me, what’s up?”

"Well um… it’s Mia she’s err..."

“What is it?” Leo asked taking out another foot ninja with a heel kick.

" It’s Mia she’s gone into labour!" Julie cried out.

"Julie get your butt over here! We need you to call up April!" Robyn’s voice said in the back.

" Right! Sorry Leo gotta go! Please get home as quick as you can!"

“W-WAIT!” the bleep of the phone stopped him from getting any answers.

Leo had to get home, he promised Mia! He promised a few weeks back, that he’d be with her when the baby came.
“DAMMIT!”  the leader cried out slashing his blades against a ninja. This wasn’t Leo’s usual dialect so Mikey, Raph and Don knew something was up.

“Bro what’s got ta ya?” Raph asked smashing two of the ninja’s heads together as he flipped over them.
“It’s Mia…” Leo blocked an attack with his katana as he swerved them downwards, slicing his enemy’s blades in two.
“The baby’s on its way!”

WHY OF ALL TIMES DID KARAI HAVE TO MOUNT AN ATTACK!
“Well what are you waiting for dude?” Mikey smiled before doing three flips back.
“Wha…”
“I think what Mikey is trying to say is, go to her, you made a promise after all right?” Don said, swinging his staff around as he took out three ninja’s.
“Don’t ya worry bro; we’ll handle these clowns an’ we’ll catch up wiv ya later!” Raph winked.

Leo was truly grateful to have brothers like them. He took out one last foot ninja before trailing off into the city.
‘Please Mia… hang on!’ Leo prayed.

Unfortunately for him, he was being watched from above.

Back at the lair things didn’t seem to be going to all too well; Mia was in severe pain as her contractions begun.

Instead of resting on the bed Mia had kneeled herself over the edge. Her face was buried in Charlotte’s lap, letting out weeps and sobs, as she wanted Leo their desperately.
“Ngh! Ahaa!”
Charlotte knew how she was feeling she had gone through the same when she was in labour with Ashley. It hurt having Mia’s fingers clawing into her, but she tolerated it, for her friends sake.

Soon the bedroom door flew open, as Robyn poked her head in.
“April’s on her way” she said before closing the door back up, she didn’t want to see any of this. It was too gruesome for her. Robyn and Splinter were waiting outside; keeping an eye on Ashley, there was little they could do, given the circumstances. Splinter kept himself in meditation and Robyn tried distracting herself by playing with her niece. It was a little hard to drown out the noise though.

Until April arrived Julie had taken control of being Mia’s midwife, she, along with Don and April, had read up and studied the basics of labour. Once she had examined Mia’s state thoroughly, it turned out she was still only five centimetres dilated.

Another twenty minutes had pasted, as Mia clasped onto Charlotte, bearing herself with the burning sensation shooting through her lower region.
She cried out once again in agony as Charlotte rubbed her friends shell with comfort.
“You’re doing great Mia, just nice deep breaths now…” Julie instructed, calmly getting the room together for when the baby arrived, such as warm water and numerous towels.

She had to remain composed for Mia’s sake; her losing the plot wouldn’t have made things any easier.
“Okay that last one was painful…” Mia hissed, pulling herself out of her friends lap.

With some assistance, she was helped back into her bed. Thinking that she would be more comfortable lying down, rather than chafing her knees on the floor.
“AHH! I-it hurts, it hurts!” Mia suddenly cried out, clasping onto the edge of the mattress.

After carrying this child for over nine months, she just wanted this baby out of her.
“It’s important that you don’t push Mia, understand… if you do, it’ll only delay the birth longer” Charlotte said. Both the red head and Julie caught each other’s glances hoping, praying, that Leo would make it for his baby’s birth.

It was bad enough that Raph had missed Ashley’s birth, leading Leo to promising Mia he would be there for her.

Even with Leo’s determination to make it back in time, this was a rather impatient baby and it didn’t look as if Mia’s labour was slowing down at all.
“I’m here! Is Mia okay?!” a voice called out. It was April, she charged into the lair as Splinter pointed her in the right direction.

April quickly took over as Charlotte went to tend to her own infant. Ashley stretched out her arms keen for her mother to hold her.
“Hey you, I think it’s time I put you to bed” Charlotte smiled as she wandered over to the tot’s side and lifted her into the air, but the infant had other ideas.
“NA! NAAAH!” she kicked and swatted away, rebelling against her mother’s wishes.

Charlotte wondered why her daughter was reacting this way, her question was answered by Ashley’s soaked eyes glancing up into hers, before she snuggled against Charlotte’s shoulder.
“Mimi…” Ashley pointed to the room were the scary noises were coming from, she had caught on that something was wrong with her aunt Mia, and she didn’t like it.

It was amazing to know that she understood, considering she was only two years old.
Charlotte gently stroked her daughters head, letting the infant feel secure and safe.
“Auntie Mia’s just fine sweetie, nothing to fear…” she whispered. Within moments Ashley seemed to have calmed down, never taking her eyes of the blaring room. Charlotte then took the chance, to take her away from the ruckus and put her to bed.

Leo kept a steady eye on his breathing as he continued to speed and leap across each building, nearing himself closer to home. He didn’t want to collapse from exhaustion anytime soon.

“Do you want us to go after the turtle mistress?” a voice asked as he and Karai watched the mutant from high above.
“No… I will see to it that my father’s honour is restored by my hands” she replied swiftly bounding her way down the tall buildings.

Within a matter of seconds she had caught up with the blue banded turtle, pulling out her sword she screamed, hauling it towards Leo’s shell. Lucky Leo had seen this coming as he swung round, blocking her attack with his blade, the armoured ninja was propelled back as her feet skimmed across the rooftop.

Leo knew exactly who he was up against.
“Not now Karai! I don’t have time for this!” he yelled.
“You will face me in combat Leonardo! I will avenge my father!” she hollered as she charged forward.

Although Leo wanted to fight her, and offer another lecture on why she shouldn’t be working under the tyranny of the shredder. He had other priorities right now.

He easily stepped sideways, tripping the woman flat on her face; she dropped her sword and crashed into the crumbling wall. Karai snarled as she reached into her boot pulling out a small dagger.

Staggering to her feet, Leo spotted that the right side of her face was all grazed, as a trail of blood poured from her nose. She realised this and let out almighty laugh as she smeared it away with her hand.
“Karai stop doing this! You’re only going to get yourself killed!” but the rage that fuelled her energy prevented Karai from taking in Leo’s warning.
“If I am going to die… I AM TAKING YOU WITH ME!” she roared holding the dagger in position as she charged once more.

Leo veered left then right, and then left again avoiding the weapon entirely before he was able to make his move. He grasped onto Karai’s wrist twisting it round in hope that she would drop the dagger. But Karai was persistent, she held the weapon tight, taking her other hand as she brought it upward hoping to jab Leo in the side.

Yet somehow the turtle managed to latch both her arms together as Karai then swung her body round, setting herself free from Leo’s grip. It took a lot of work and she was beginning to run out of juice.

With the dagger still in her hands, Karai turned to give the final blow.

She gasped as she felt a sudden burning, sharp feeling pierce her stomach. Slowly getting the courage to look down, Karai noticed the end of a blood stained sword.
“It wasn’t supposed to end this way Karai…” Leo’s voice pronounced as he drew his blade from the woman’s insides.

Karai fell to her knees, the blood spreading rapidly through her clothes.
“I’m sorry…” Leo whispered. Karai began to cough as she spewed up some blood, she could tell he was lying.
“I know why you were running Leonardo…” she muttered.

Leo flinched Karai couldn’t have known. He had made certain that the family’s next generation would be safe from, all of this.
“I will find your child… and soon I will g-get the chance to look at your face, when I take its life…” she heaved her last breath before eyes closed and her body fell to the floor.

Leo didn’t want to see her, so he took a moment to grieve silently. Even though they didn’t always get along, he and Karai were still sum-what friends.

Placing his blades safely away, Leo saw fit to continue his task.

Meanwhile things at the lair seemed just as chaotic. Mia was now fully dilated and reaching her final stages of labour had its toll. Another powerful contraction took hold, the strongest one yet. She gasped at the intensity of it and breathed deeply into it, letting out a low moan as she relaxed her chin against her chest.

Mia continued her deep breathing although they were more of heavy pants clasping onto each of Charlotte’s and Julie hands, as April had instructed her to push.
“Mia you need to push on the next contraction!”
“But…” her voice trembled with fear, with sweat dripping from her forehead as she shed a few tears past her cheeks.
“You’re only going to do harm to yourself and the baby, if you don’t push now!” April tried to remain calm, but she was getting rather impatient with Mia’s stubbornness.

Charlotte thought it best to intervene.
“Sweetie come on now, if Leo said he’d be here, he will… but you need to push alright” Mia only had an around twenty seconds to think it over before the next contraction arrived.
“Aaa!” she screamed and with that she put her thoughts aside and did as she was told. Her legs and muscles tensed up, as the feeling of the baby inside of her, was driven downwards.

Another push, another breath; and another still.

By this time Leo had finally reached the lair, he charged into the garage and entered the lift, the door closed up as it progressed into the sewers. This gave him a chance to catch his breath, sweat covered his forehead and shoulders, he’d sworn he’d never run so fast in his life. Eventually the door’s opened into the living room as Master Splinter and Robyn both rose from their seats.

“My son you’re back” Splinter smiled.
“It’s about time” Robyn grinned, folding her arms across her chest. Then Splinter noticed something that he wished he hadn’t. Splashes of blood covered Leo’s hand and belt.
“Leonardo…” Splinter muttered his eyes fixated on the substance. Seeing that his sensei was distracted, Leo glanced downwards realising what his father saw, he got to work on rubbing the gore away.

But before Splinter was able to ask what had happened, Leo changed the subject all together.
“Where is she?” he interrupted, he didn’t have time for greetings or questions on where he was. Once again Splinter pointed him in the right direction. The old rat watched his son carefully as the turtle charged up to the room.

Leo approached his bedroom door with caution, his heart raced as he pushed the handle down, forcing the metal frame open. Mia was resting on the bed although things seemed far from peaceful. Her hair was unfastened and ruffled amongst the pillow and bed sheets, her whole body moist from the sweat and agony she was feeling.

Leo’s entrance had caught everybody by surprise.
“Leo!” Julie and Charlotte beamed stepping aside so he could be with his wife.
“Mia? Mia are you okay?!” Leo exclaimed coming over to the bedside, he instantly took her hand into his own. She just about managed to turn her face towards his.
“Leo… ” she couldn’t quite make out who the figure belonged to, the whole room felt like it was spinning.

By blinking a few times she managed to clear away the fuzziness.
“You really did make it”
“I’m here Mia… I kept my promise” he grinned. The pair let their foreheads touch, but it wasn’t long before the excruciating distress of child birth, brought them back to reality.
“Okay you’re doing great so far Mia” April said, running her hand along Mia’s knee, the fact that Leo was now with her, seemed to have boost the turtle’s need to see this through.

------

Sometime had now passed, no one knew how long. Charlotte and Julie where now waiting anxiously on the side-lines. The room seemed overcrowded, but Mia didn’t want either one of them to leave. So both turtles did their best to remain out of the way.

Meanwhile Leo had Mia’s palm in his grasp as he felt the need to cry out also, with how tight she was squeezing.
“Alright, one last push, a real big one this time!” April said.
“I can’t… it’s too hard…” Mia whimpered.
“You have to!” April replied as she could already see the baby’s head emerging.
“No, no I can’t…” Mia hicked.
“Yes you can” Leo encouraged wrapping his other arm around her for support.

Julie and Charlotte had their hands clasped together, as they silently cheered their friend on.
Finally using the last of her energy and will power Mia gave one final push, unleashing a scream once again.
“That’s it, that’s it…” April beamed as she could see the baby’s head emerging. Mia kept going, even though everyone expected her to take a quick break, she didn’t want to stop. Not when she had gotten this far.

There was a last surge of pain, and then just like that, it was over.

April caught the baby and placed it carefully on her lap, using a towel she began to clear the infant’s airway and its body of any blood and muck.

Mia’s body fell back into the pillows; the pain of the labour now dwindled within the passing seconds. She was so exhausted, and even though the soreness was reduced, her body continued to tremble. Leo planted a kiss on Mia’s head as he was very proud of her. The couple’s hands remained locked together, as sighs of relief filled the room.

Almost instantly a high pitched wail alerted everyone in the room. With all heads turned towards April, they waited anxiously.
“Oooh I know I know…” she kept repeating to the turtle, as it continued to cry.

Carefully wrapping the baby up in a warm blanket, April slowly rose to her feet with a beam of excitement planted over her face. She cradled the turtle’s head and body as she presented the new-born to everyone.

Mia lifted her head up as she and Leo took a moment to observe the creature in April’s arms.

It was a baby, their baby.
